You probably haven’t noticed it yet while driving up or down the north side of Loveland Pass. Some things are not swinging right above your head at the Loveland Ski Area anymore.
All the chairlift chairs from the 1970s double chairlift, aka Lift 5, have been removed.
This means it is time to register to purchase one of the authentic Lift 5 chairs.

“Installed in 1975, the Heron Poma double chairlift carried generations of skiers and snowboarders across Highway 6, connecting Loveland Basin and Loveland Valley until it was retired from service in 2002,” Loveland Ski Area said in a press release statement Wednesday, July 8. “Although the lift has not operated for more than two decades, the towers and chairs have remained a familiar part of the Loveland landscape.”
Loveland said only 130 chairs are available and significant interest expected. Loveland will sell the original Lift 5 chairs through a random lottery.
“The lottery is open exclusively to 2026/27 Loveland Season Pass holders whose passes have been paid in FULL,” Loveland said. “Guests interested in participating can purchase a 2026/27 Loveland Season Pass at SkiLoveland.com. Once their pass is paid in full, they will be eligible to register for the Lift 5 Chair Lottery.”
Lottery Details
- Registration is open now through July 22.

- Winners will receive a redemption code and must complete their online purchase by July 30. Any unclaimed chairs may be offered to alternate winners.
- One lottery entry is permitted per eligible season pass holder.
- Season passes must be paid in full to qualify. Season passes on a payment plan are not eligible.
- Multiple season pass holders from the same household may enter, but only one winner per household will be selected.

“The chairs are more than 40 years old and are being sold as-is, complete with the wear and character earned from decades of service,” Loveland said. “Lift pads have been removed from every chair, and chairs will be assigned in random order. Requests for specific chair numbers cannot be accommodated.”
